Gaucho's day: September 20th in Santana do Livramento

As I always said, cowboys from Texas and gaúchos from Rio Grande do Sul have a lot in common: proud; close connection with farm, horses, cattle…; friendship; hospitality; and even their (our) own Republic in the 1800’s. September 20th is the gaucho’s day. We celebrate the revolution that took place here in 1835, when gauchos invaded the capital of the province and took the local government. That was the fuse for a 10 years conflict against the Brazilian empire that changed the history of our state. To monumentalize it, a big celebration takes place in every city in the state and several out of it, including CTG (Gaucho’s Tradition Center) all around the world, in places such as New York and Paris. The celebration lasts, in most of places, for one week (in some other for the entire September). The culmination is when, in the sep-20th cavalarymen “invade” the streets of the cities in an amazing horse parade through the city’s main streets. In Santana do Livramento (my hometown), in e.g., there are more than 6000 men in horses, not counting the allegorical trucks. It’s a way to celebrate our proud and to tell people a little bit of the history of our state. The pictures in this album are from my friends in this parade. Hope you enjoy it!
See ya!
